After graduating from the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry (Tay Nguyen University), in 2011, Nguyen Hai Phong worked at the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Gia Lai province. Born and raised in the city. Pleiku, who is passionate about agriculture, is very interested in coffee trees. “I realize that my hometown is a large raw material area. However, coffee growers are having to put in a lot of effort, but only received very little profit. Thinking about that, I researched and participated in classes on growing, caring for and processing coffee. At the same time, I look to longtime coffee growers to learn from experience, research and then boldly invest, plant and develop raw material areas in the two provinces of Gia Lai and Kon Tum" - Mr. Phong shared.


In 2018, Mr. Phong founded Tropico Tay Nguyen Coffee Co., Ltd. (headquartered at 133 Cao Ba Quat, Pleiku City) with the goal of building organic ecological raw material areas to create a sustainable value chain from stages: seed selection, planting, care, harvesting, preliminary processing, and processing to increase the value of Vietnamese coffee beans; At the same time, create a good source of income and a culture of making high-quality organic ecological coffee for the coffee farming community. The Company's raw material area stretches across the Northern Central Highlands with two coffee varieties Arabica and Robusta. These are places that he has researched, surveyed and assessed as having the right climate and soil to produce coffee beans with good health and unique flavor. In 2019, he decided to quit his job at the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to focus on developing the Company.

“The Arabica raw material area is located in 3 districts: Kon Plong, Tu Mo Rong, Dak Glei (Kon Tum province) with a total area of ​​thousands of hectares. The Robusta coffee raw material area is located in the city. Pleiku and districts: Dak Doa, Chu Pah, Chu Prong, Chu Se, Ia Grai. These are the Robusta coffee growing areas that we evaluate the best and have a very unique flavor of Gia Lai land" - Mr. Phong said.


Besides, Mr. Phong also cooperates in purchasing fresh coffee from farmers in raw material areas at the best prices. Then, link with the community to form a system of sustainable ecological coffee farms in raw material areas, providing high-quality varieties favored around the world and transferring planting, care and harvesting techniques. He also supports people with machinery and coffee processing techniques. These stages all have written association agreements and sales contracts between the Company and farmer organizations.

After harvesting and preliminary processing, the green kernels are sifted and roasted. Coffee beans are roasted to perfection to create a unique, unique flavor. The roasted beans are packaged in bags with a one-way valve to ensure that the coffee is best preserved and isolated from the environment before the product reaches customers under the Kopic Coffee brand. Currently, Tropico Tay Nguyen Coffee Co., Ltd. is one of the main focal points for purchasing products for many households as well as cooperatives in Gia Lai and Kon Tum with thousands of hectares of coffee. In the 2021-2022 crop year, the Company's coffee output will reach 260 tons of green beans processed using Honey and Natural methods. It is expected that in the following years, capacity will increase according to market demand. In recent years, the Company has also exported to the Russian and Oman markets. In particular, in the 2021-2022 crop year, the Company exports 200 tons of green coffee beans.


Mr. Phong said: "In the early stages, I encountered many difficulties in terms of capital, techniques for caring for, harvesting and processing coffee as well as output for the product. After many years of efforts, the Company's products have gained a foothold in the market. The most important thing is that I have contributed to improving people's lives, enhancing the value of Gia Lai coffee and Vietnamese coffee in the international market."
